Princess Maxima is celebrating her 40th birthday next week, immortalized in a special
photo shoot by Erwin Olaf. The AD (a Dutch Newspaper) gave the world famous Dutch photographer the assignment for this series. The photos will be published in a special magazine about the Princess in May 2011.

The Dutch photographer portrayed the Princess in different ways in a style that makes
his photographs unique. Erwin Olaf is delighted with the result: "The Princess has a
special personality and she's an attractive woman." He continues discreet about the

Feeling Good

Birds flying high you know how I feel
Sun in the sky you know how I feel
Breeze driftin' on by you know how I feel

It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
For me
And I'm feeling good

Fish in the sea you know how I feel
River running free you know how I feel
Blossom on the tree you know how I feel

It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
For me
And I'm feeling good

Dragonfly out in the sun you know what I mean, don't you know
Butterflies all havin' fun you know what I mean
Sleep in peace when day is done
That's what I mean
And this old world is a new world
And a bold world
For me

Stars when you shine you know how I feel
Scent of the pine you know how I feel
Oh freedom is mine
And I know how I feel
It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
For me
And I'm feeling good

* Feeling Good, 1965 a song originally written for the musical The Roar of the Greasepaint- the Smell of the Crowd. By Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse.

Picasso in paris, 1900-1907

When Pablo Picasso arrived in Paris in 1900 a new world opened
up for the nineteen-year-old painter. Developing his own style and
getting inspiration in the work of artists such as Van Gogh,
Gauguin, Toulouse-Lautrec and Steinlen.

"With pioneering works such as Melancholy woman (1901, Detroit
Institute of Arts) from his melancholy Blue Period and the famous
Self-portrait with a palette (1906, Philadelphia Museum of Art) from
his Pink Period, he paved the way for Cubism, which would forever
change the course of twentieth-century painting.

The exhibition in the Van Gogh Museum traces Picasso’s artistic
development from his arrival in Paris until 1907, when he had grown
into a leading figure of the French avant-garde."

Marilyn Monroe by Richard Avedon

The thin line between actor and character, between the private self and
the public role. "There was no such person as Marilyn Monroe, Marilyn
Monroe was someone Marilyn Monroe invented, like an author creates a
character. For hours she danced and sang and flirted and did this thing
that's she did Marilyn Monroe. And then there was the inevitable drop.
And when the night was over and the white wine was over and the dancing
was over, she sat in the corner like a child, with everything gone. I saw her
sitting quietly without expression on her face, and I walked towards her
but I wouldn't photograph her without her knowledge of it. And as I came
with the camera, I saw that she was not saying no."

From an interview with the filmmaker Helen Whitney.

Back to the Future by Irina Werning

She says she loves old photos. For Irina it’s imagining how people would
feel and look like if they were to reenact them today... With her camera,
she started inviting people to go back to their future.

And I hope she will be continuing this project!
